The project aims to affect the image of our city, how it will appear to its residents after 10 – 20 next years. Nowadays a dominant view that we encounter among the problematic due to degradation, is that of prefabricated buildings. During the communism they were icons that ‘decorated’ every main street. Today we cannot say the same thing. Prefabricated building apartments are not fulfilling anymore with existing users, or about the quantity or about the quality of service. For this reason it is thought that the inclusion of these new facilities city’s scale would have a much wider impact and prompt in changing his image. It is thought that the demolition of these buildings five to six floors to construct new buildings with more floors will not justify the costs. For this reason we proposed upgrading interventions that would bring more immediate positive impact on the city. They are two main strategies: 1. increasing the utilization coefficient of the surface without extra cost for demolition, inhabitant’s movement or new building blocks. 2. Increase the coefficient of the public space per habitat at no extra cost for for opening new sites.
The proposed intervention will have no adverse effects on the residents of these buildings. It would not threaten their removal from these buildings. The space for intervention will be the upper part of the existing building and the space ‘empty’ space between the apartments. The project aims to exploit the terraces of prefabricated housing and to relate them to each other in height. For each m2 built 30% of it will be public space.
The cultural and social activities that are missing to our city will take place at those new voids. There will be recreational space for children who will not feel vulnerable to car engines and elderly who will enjoy tranquility away from them. Also there may be other activities by different community services. The City will be experienced in a new dimension.
